Earth Vs. The Spider!
Ok...I am cheating a bit here because the 1950's giant monster film was not a tv show or movie (although there was a Showtime remake a few decades later)It was a drive-in spectacle that featured a Giant Spider battle a small town (not the earth) I list this film in this TV blog because I first saw it on local Saturday Afternoon TV where horror films from many generations past would air on UHF stations. When there were only 4 or 5 channels in your town you tuned in when something special was on. No VCRs, daddy. Not for the poor folks in 1981, anyway. So, when you watchd these dopey films they ended up resonating strongly in your memories. (Did I neglect to mention that I just received a DVD of this film today?)
Now, the much more popular and more sinisterly scary Tarantula aired more often on my local UHF stations. (It was a Universal film and part of the Universal Monsters syndicated collection) I seemed to enjoy EvsTS a bit more because Tarantula lacked the action-adventurism that EvsTS had. This was because Tarantula was going more for shocks and scares whereas EvsTS was more of a low rent version of those army vs. giant monsters films. As silly as this film and others like it may be, I always found Earth vs. the Spider to be a reel hoot. So here's my little shout out to it.
