Buck Rogers - Awakening Theme

"He is a thoroughly confused man."

So states Dr. Theopolis in the pilot episode of BUCK ROGERS IN THE 25TH CENTURY on poor Gil Gerard when he awakes after his 500 year slumber and into the realm of a 25th Century pilot of galatically boring proportions. Oh, don't get me wrong, I really dug the old BUCK ROGERS series...in fact, I am a HUGE fan...but the pilot episode (which was curiously released in theaters) was kind of flat. Then again, it did feature the LYRICS (!) to the title music. Even better...during the voice over narration of the opening pro-logue....it is mentioned that Buck dreams of "fantasies" while in his slumber while we are fed images of hot futuristic babes (the future of 1979 that is) ala a James Bond intro (!) while we are fed some seriously deep lyrics. Yes, fans...we are lead to believe that Buck Rogers imagined 500 years worth of wer dreams...I kid you NOT.

But dig them serious, deep and ponderous lyrics.

"Far beyond the world I've known,
Far beyond my time
What am I, who am I, what will I be?
Where am I going, and what will I see?
Searching my mind for some truth to reveal
What parts are fantasy, what memories real?
Long before this life of mine,
Long before this time
What was there, who cared to make it begin?
Is it forever, or will it all end?
Searching my past for things that I've seen
Is it my life, or something I've dreamed?
Far beyond this world I've known,
Far beyond my time
What kind of world am I going to find?
Will it be real, or just all in my mind?
What am I, who am I, what will I be?
Where am I going, and what will I see?"
