Incredible Hulk - Mystery Man

Sorry for the delay on this folks, but I have been having connection issues.

The second season of THE INCREDBLE HULK was the best season in the series run and it filled with a number of well written and memorable episodes. Of all the episodes of the season, most people will list the brilliant two parter MARRIED as the best of the series. In terms of writing, acting and directing, I would agree. In terms of the impact of storylines on the series, I would have to point to MYSTERY MAN PARTS ONE AND TWO as one of the best storylines of the entire series run.

I know I am getting old because I first saw this two parter on television when it first aired (2 Mar 79 and 9 Mar 79) and it was an episode that blew my mind mainly because of the audacious departure from what had previously been the modus operandi of the series. In this episode, David Banner suffers amnesia after a car accident that leaves him badly burned. Hence, his face is covered in bandages. Jack Magee stumbles upon David (now known as John Doe), but doesn't know he is Banner because he can't see his face. (We'll ignore the part about Magee not recognizing Banner's voice) "John" admits he has prior memories of having met the Hulk in the past via flashbacks and hooks up with Magee as a means of regaining his memory. In short order, they are in an airplane that crashes in the wilderness and are surrounded by a forest fire.

The two parter provides an insight into the Magee character and we learn that this down and out reporter had a father that was perpetually down and out. Finding and capturing the Hulk can send Megee to the "big time" once again and, in a way, this can allow him to put the psychological demons to rest regarding his repeating of his father's failures. Like I said, this is one of the best scripts of the series.

And who can forget the great scene were Banner regains his memory and ralizes he is cursed to walk the earth as the Hulk? That scene made me cry as a little kid.
