The Night Stalker Companion
The year was 1993 and I was attending the ICON Sci-Fi Convention in
Stonybrook, NY and came across something that really caught my eye. I
was dead broke, but I had to purchase it anyway. Yes, I have done that
before and that is why I was in debt for so many years, but I digress.
The book was called The Night Stalker Companion: A 25th Anniversary
Tribute by Mark Dawidziak and it was my all time favorite television
retrospective ever written. This book completely blew me away as it
covered the totality of one of my all time favorite television
programs. EVERYTHING was covered in this book including Jeff Rice's
creation of the novel the TV was based on, the TV Movies, the TV movies
that were never made, the TV series, why it failed, the episodes that
were never filmed and the reunion movie that was never made (Sadly,
they did remake the series a few years ago and it was so awful that we
wish they never made it) This was one of those books that you could
read over and over again and get something new out of it every time.
Dawidziak really hit the ball out of the park with this one as it is a
true labor of love that really did help me through the tough times when
I was stressed out in college. Flipping open this book and reliving
simpler times when watching Kolchak at 1230am on CBS Friday nights
brought a joy to a little kid who had yet to see the complexities of
the world.
