Flintstones Meet Rockula and Frankenstone

I wanted to make mention of many of the great Halloween specials that were commonplace on television back int he day. In the old, old days it was rare for a children's cartoon to appear on Prime Time TV and during the holidays it was not uncommon for an animated special to make an appearance between 8 and 9 pm. (I also remember a letter to TV Guide written by a woman complaining about being denied viewing choice because of animated programs removing an hour of adult programming from the prime time  schedule)  Some  of the coolest  specials were based on Halloween themes with, of course, IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN CHARLIE BROWN launching the trend in 1966. In 1980, there was an excellent Flintstones Halloween Special called THE FLINTSTONES MEET ROCKULA AND FRANKENSTONE that debuted in 1980. The plot is simple: Fred wins a vacation to Rocksylvania and runs into a vampire who wants to make Wilma his bride. (Cartoon mayhem endues) Honestly, I only VAGUELY remember this special having only seen it once when it first aired and this special may have been based on the Saturday Morning version of the show . When the Flintstones were revived on Saturday Morning TV with THE NEW FRED AND BARNEY SHOW in 1979, the Flinstones ended up with creepy Monster neighbors (yes, this also occurred in the original 1960's series but it was a failed idea) called The Frankenstones and the 1970's/1980's formula proved successful creating a popular program that was a huge hit. The Frankenstones even ended up with their own successful spin off series.
