Ron Paul on Morton Downey Jr
I had been wanting to write something about the old Morton Downey Jr program for a while, but really haven't thought what to write about. The program was a dopey program loaded with yelling and screaming and tons of fake guests played by actors. (This was not exclusive to Downey's Show, using actors as guests and "working" the audience was commonplace during the talk show fad of yesteryear) Downey's program started as a local NYC show and it was syndicated nationally for a short while before the sheer boredom of the program killed the ratings after a year. What is funny is that Downey started the series as a "conservative" when the program started, but when the ratings started to drop he became a "liberal." Actually, he was neither. He was a huckster who was trying to present a gimmick. So, why do we opt to honor Downey? We (me) aren't. I discovered some rare footage of ...Ron Paul...clowning it up with the audience circa 1988. Yes, Ron Paul has been around a while and here is one of his earlier TV appearances and a bombastic one at that.
