Joe Pyne
I was watching the O'Reilly Factor and heard a passing mention of Joe Pyne. Now, the name Joe Pyne may be long forgotten, but for a while he was one of the most controversial figures in the nation and we was, along with Bob Grant and a few others, one of the first of the conservative media hosts. (Yes, some will throw Wally George in there, but George's program was more along the lines of a Jerry Springer type buffoon fest) Pyne's program was a little over the top in the sense that he berated guests and bullied them, but lacked the redeeming quality that someone like O'Reilly projects through his charitable work and "help the little guy in the face of overwhelming odds" and this worked against Pyne. His program only lasted a few weeks, but he was having more success on the radio. Could he have started the talk show revolution 20 years before Limbaugh? We'll never know as Pyne ended up smoking himself into an early grave at 44. In fact, you can see him chain smoking in some of these clips.
