I finally picked up the second half of Voyage to the Bottom of the Seas third season DVD set and, yup, many of the episodes on this DVD are pretty bad. Probably the most idiotic of the episodes I have watched so far was the AWFUL Heat Monster episode. I mean, the "special effects" of this episode are BAD by 1960's standards...and they new it...they expressed a lot of concern at the time when shooting this episode as to how bad the "heat monster" looked. (Imagine one of the grills that makes Burger King Hamburgers chasing someone and you get the idea) Also annoying was the Mermaid episode which actually started out pretty good and then slipped into awfulness with the nonsensical inclusion of a rampaging monster and a return of the overdone "deactivate the nuclear bomb" storyline that was starting to get really old. Now....this is not to say the episodes were boring....some were pretty action packed albeit pedestrian. I'll talk about those later.
