Horror Hosts

Horror movie hosts were a major part of the pop culture landscape of the USA during the 1970's, but horror hosts had existed long before the 1970's and many still exist on UHF stations today. Granted, during the 1970's they were verifiable local SUPERSTARS and that is a phenom that we will probably never see again. Sadly This clip of the "Ghost Host" from the early 1980's is kind of creepy... What is sad about the brilliance of local UHF television programming of the 1970's is the fact that they were...well...local and are generally unknown to many people who would otherwise loved to have seen them. Consider this retro look at a local horror host from Omaha. This was clearly a GREAT show and thankfully footage was archived. Sadly, a decade's worth of equally brilliant footage of Philadelphia's Dr Shock has long since been lost or destroyed. Here is one from Raleigh and it's open features surfer music (?) "All you need to know about this film is people are killed and eaten."
