Shout and My So Called Life

My So Called Life is (along with the brilliant Freaks and Geeks) one of the best television series directed at teens that simply didn't draw an audience. I just finished watching the pilot episode and I have to say it was excellently crafted and a solid program. (Then again, I have 16 episodes to go before making a decision as to how great the series was/is but so far it looks really cool) Anyway…more on this series later.

For now, I have to give Shout a real round of applause for releasing some of the best cult television programming out onto the home video market as they have not only made the aforementioned two programs available but they have also released classics such as The Electric Company and Undecided as well as a number of other great programs. Again, this is a solid DVD company that any fan of classic television will want to keep an eye on.

In some ways I like to think that the success of classic television programs on DVD took people by surprise. After all, aren't these programs readily available on cable to free? Haven't most people seen these programs 100x? Regardless, people love to purchase their favorite programs on DVD and that also means they enjoy purchasing those lesser known shows they may have missed the first time around. Thanks to Shout we get another glimpse at those great programs we misses. Much obliged!
