A midget circus clown is replacing members of the crew with wax dummy androids in an attempt to use the Seaview as a way of moving from nation to nation replacing all the world's leaders? Umm. That sounds like an idiotic plot and, in a way, it is…but the Voyage episode THE WAX MEN is actually a solid episode much like THE MUMMY in the sense that as dopey as the proceedings are the tension and the scare factor are high enough to make the proceedings well worth watching. And as dopey as the clown is he is quite creepy and frightening (although the climax where his is brandishing a machine gun is kind of dopey) and this makes this episode a step above a lame monster of the week vehicle.

Another episode I sort of dug was SHADOWMAN although it is a weakly written script. Part of the reason for it is that I first say this episode in the early 1980's on UHF reruns and found the Shadowman character to be kind of cool as far as alien invaders go…plus his creepy voice makes him, well, creepy, although the alien invasion plot is somewhat tired. So, as bad as some of the episodes in season three are there are a few that are fun enough to make it worthwhile.
