You will probably scoff at me – a virile man – because be
has dared to pick up the DVD set of the classic program DYNASTY. Yes, the old
John Forsythe/Joan Collins series (not to be confused with the kung fu film
DYNASTY 3-D) Sure, people will forgive you for watching DALLAS because it was a classic program with
classic characters and a host of memorable storylines. But DYNASTY? Wasn't that
a thoroughly trashy program that catered to an almost exclusively National Enquirer
audience? Yes, folks, it was. And that was also part of the charm. Some others
may scoff at the program for being a DALLAS
rip-off, but this is a dumb statement. It would be like saying THREE'S COMPANY
is a rip-off of ALL IN THE FAMILY because both were sitcoms. Yes, there would
not have been a DYNASTY without the popularity of DALLAS nor would there have been a KNOTS
LANDING or a FALCON CREST. After all, the popularity of one program will spawn
similar. Funny, it would seem these days that late night soap operas have gone
the way of the dinosaur but daytime soaps manage to remain as popular as ever.
Then again, there is not much choice for daytime programming so trends
generally don't vary. Regardless, it is time for me to start watching those
DYNASTY dvds. I haven't seen the show in a good twenty years…..
