Since I spent a little time mentioning the SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN series I thought I should mention the forgotten rip-off of the Bionic Man...FUTURE COP! This series debuted in 1977 and lasted only a few episodes. This should not come as a surprise since most sci-fi TV of the 1970's tanked. You would think that a series that copied the Six Million Dollar Man would be a hit, but you have to remember that despite the MONSTROUS marketing success of the series it never really cracked the top twenty ratings during its run. In a way, the success of the Six Million Dollar Man was its ability to sell merchandise and act as a commercial..although it was a solid show none the less. FUTURE COP was a poorly written show that actually starred the familiar Ernest Borgnine who had long since been a TV icon due to his McHale's Navy run. But, he couldn't draw an audience on this show and it would be tough to anyway since it was dumped on the airwaves with little promotion or fanfare. And you have to feel bad for John Amos. He was fired from the hit show GOOD TIMES and ended up playing second banana in this forgotten series.
