Gilligan Cartoons

Yes, I did mention the lost pilot of Gilligan's Island and was planning on discussing my memories of watching the series on local UHF but instead I thought I would make mention of the two cartoons that were inspired by the success of the series in syndication. The cartoons were ok. Really, they were nothing special to write home about as they used limited animation and featured tired and weak writing. They were THE NEW ADVENTURES OF GILLIGAN'S ISLAND and GILLIGAN'S PLANET.

Both were Filmation Series and NEW ADVENTURES ran about two dozen episodes that aired from 1974 to 1977 (got to love how they repeatedly recycled the same episodes over and over again) and PLANET ran 13 episodes from 1982 – 1983. What made these episodes interesting was the fact that the bulk of the original cast provided their voices to the series.

I did enjoy watching GILLIGAN'S PLANET when I was a kid but I have to say that THE NEW ADVENTURES did nothing for me…
