Sometimes, a TV series doesn't succeed despite the fact that - on paper - it should. The Planet of the Apes TV series SHOULD have been a decent hit considering the movies had done well at the box office and launched a landslide of merchandise. Now, had the program been a poorly written show I could understand it flopping - but it wasn't a poorly written program. In fact, many of the scripts were quite well written. Yes, it paled in comparison to the films in terms of budget but the writing was WAY better than the awful Battle of the Planet of the Apes. Ultimately, this was a program that really couldn't work on network television. Had it come along in 1988 as a syndicated series it would have done much better. Much, much better.
